Located about 30 kilometers east of Muzaffarabad, the capital city of Azad Kashmir, Pir Chinasi is a popular tourist destination that sits majestically atop hills at an altitude of 2,900 meters (9,500 feet). This mountain peak is known for its breathtaking views and adventurous activities, making it a beloved spot for both nature lovers and thrill-seekers.
A Journey from Islamabad
Our journey to Pir Chinasi began early in the morning as we left Islamabad and made our way through the scenic routes leading to the mountain peak. The drive from Islamabad to Pir Chinasi is about 150 kilometers, taking us through picturesque landscapes, lush green valleys, and winding roads. To add to the excitement, my cousin and I decided to sit on the roof of the bus for a more immersive experience. The cool breeze, the smell of pine trees, and the unobstructed views made this a truly unique part of our journey.
Breathtaking Views: A Panorama of Muzaffarabad and Beyond
One of the highlights of visiting Pir Chinasi is the stunning panoramic view it offers. From the peak, you can see the sprawling city of Muzaffarabad, nestled amidst lush green hills and valleys. The sight of the city from such a high vantage point is truly mesmerizing. The rural areas around Muzaffarabad also come into view, revealing the hidden beauty of the region.
We spent a considerable amount of time simply soaking in the breathtaking scenery. The vast expanse of greenery, the distant mountains, and the clear blue sky created a picturesque setting that felt almost surreal. It was a photographer's paradise, and I made sure to capture as many moments as possible to remember the sheer beauty of Pir Chinasi.
Sky So Close: A Unique Experience at High Altitude
As we reached the top of the mountains, it felt like we were touching the sky. The clouds seemed so close that you could almost reach out and grab them. This sensation of being so high up, so close to the sky, was both exhilarating and humbling. However, it's important to note that the high altitude can cause breathing problems for some people. A few members of our group experienced mild discomfort due to the thin air, but it was manageable with a few minutes of rest and deep breathing.
Adventure Awaits: Paragliding Thrills
While Pir Chinasi is a natural haven, it is also a hub for adventure activities. The area is famous for paragliding, which offers a thrilling way to experience the stunning landscape from the skies. Although I did not try paragliding myself, I watched several adventurers take off and glide gracefully over the valleys. Their excitement was contagious, and I made a mental note to try paragliding on my next visit.

Pir Chinasi is a destination that offers something for every season. During the summer, the weather is pleasant and perfect for hiking, sightseeing, and enjoying the lush green surroundings. The clear skies and gentle breeze make it an ideal escape from the heat of the lower regions.
In contrast, the winter transforms Pir Chinasi into a snowy wonderland. The snow-covered peaks and trees create a magical atmosphere that attracts visitors looking to experience the charm of a winter landscape. Whether you visit in the summer or winter, Pir Chinasi promises a memorable experience.
